Four New York City auction houses hold photography auctions usually during the spring and again in the fall. The photographs are displayed for the public three to five days before the sale. Admission to the pre-sale viewing is free. Often each sale consists of three to five hundred prints. As the viewing dates at the different auction houses often overlap this is an excellent way to see a large number of quality prints. Most of the auction houses have online version of the catalogs. Contact Julie Coy (jcoy@...) or Margaret Schaus (mschaus@...) if you find a catalog that requires purchase.
