ARTS 216: History of Photography from 1839 to the Present (HC) Spring 2018: Web Sites

Has information on hundreds of photographers. Can be very useful. NOTE: It is often slow to connect.

Many artists have their own websites. These are of varying usefulness.

This center retains the archives of Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Garry Winogrand, Harry Callahan, and other great twentieth-century photographers. The center has digitized some of their work on this site.

The Library of Congress holds a variety of photograph collections (all viewable from this page). Note, for example, the Daguerreotypes and the Farm Security Administration Black and White Photographs (including the work of Dorothea Lange).

The Museum of Modern Art has over 25,000 photographs and is a major resource for understanding developments in aesthetics and techniques. The website includes links to many online exhibitions including the work of Cindy Sherman and a yearly exhibit of new photography.

This organization makes images, exhibitions, and resources available online. Quite a few of the photographs displayed are in color.

The website has as its goal to encourage reflection on the evolution of photography. Many contemporary photographers' works are displayed on the website.
