SOAN 098: Senior Research Project Master Class (SC)

For a few reasons:

• Academic book reviews usually offer both a short summary and a critical analysis of the book.
• Reviews often situate the book within the context of what other scholars have written on the topic.
• By searching for book reviews on a topic, you may discover relevant books you hadn't heard about before.

To find reviews of a book:

1. Search Tripod for the title of the book.  (Example: Standing in the Need)
2. On the left, find Resource Type. Click to expand, then click on Reviews.
3. You'll see book reviews published in journals.

• Example: Reviews of Standing in the Need
• Tripod pulls up book reviews published in these journals (among others):
  Ethnic and Racial Studies, Current Anthropology, Contemporary Sociology.

Still can't find any book reviews?  There are multiple resources and approaches to try- ask a librarian for help.
