How to Find Books

Research Tools:
  • Start finding books:  Use Tripod to find books held by the TriCollege libraries.
  • Expand your search:  Search Worldcat to find books in libraries worldwide.

Strategies:

  • Plan Your Search
    • Keep a document with your search terms. This lets you reuse searches across different databases (e.g. Tripod and JSTOR).
    • Check the Search Tips page for help choosing search terms.
  • Use One Good Book to Find Others
    • When you find one good book, click the Subjects listed in the book's Tripod record - you can find other books on this topic.
    • Check the notes and bibliography for other relevant sources. (Search Tripod to find the books, PDFs, etc.)

Requests in Tripod

You can request delivery for books, DVDs, journal issues, and more from Bryn Mawr and Haverford's libraries.

This is a free service available to all TriCo students, faculty, and staff. Items usually arrive within 24 hours.

Sign in to Tripod to see request options.

Books & Articles Beyond the TriCo Libraries

The Swarthmore Libraries can help you get books, even when we don't own a copy.

Here's how to get a book:

  1. Search Tripod for the book title.
  2. No copies available in Tripod? Login to EZBorrow, search for your book, and request a copy. (takes ~1 week to arrive, usually)
  3. No luck with EZBorrow? Fill out the Interlibrary Loan Request form. (~1-2 weeks to arrive, usually)

What about articles?  You can get PDFs of articles and book chapters, too.

  1. First, check Tripod for the article or book.
  2. If we don't have access, place an Article Delivery Request or a Book Chapter Request. Most requests are filled by email. (2 days or less, usually)
