Early 1990s

  • A man incarcerated at Graterford, Wayne Covington, discovers a fossilized dinosaur footprint while doing farm labor.

1991-2016

  • Rev. Edward Niederhauser serves as Graterford's Director of Chaplaincy.

1992

  • June 24 – Evangelist Billy Graham visits Graterford.

1995

  • A major raid occurs at Graterford.
  • Temple University professor Lori Pompa and her undergraduate students visit SCI Dallas. During a panel discussion with incarcerated men, one panelist suggests turning the dialogue into a full semester course. This idea sparks what becomes the Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program.

1997

  • Temple University professors M. Kay Harris and Lori Pompa officially launch the Inside-Out program at Graterford.
