Summary of Events
1940s
- Incarcerated clerk Banmiller secures a civilian job in the prison office after release. His son, William J. Banmiller, later becomes the warden of Eastern State Penitentiary.
1944
- Leithiser retires. His chief deputy, John Brownlee, is expected to succeed him, but instead, Cornelius Burke is appointed as warden.
1949
- Charles G. Day, who had worked on Graterford's construction and served in WWII, becomes the new warden.
