First book published by Burnett's own Pasdeloup Press. Includes cover illustrations, 13 smaller drawings with the text. Black-and-white fine drawings that depict the degenerate fantasies of the forgotten king. This story later became "King folly" an episode in Burnett's Towers at the edge of a world.

The style of the stories is decadent and gothic, expressing a comic literary twist and the darkness of private fantasy. The subject matter is loosely based on a small village in Burgundy that Burnett often visited. . Inside there are 15 full page illustrations that accompany each chapter.
