Haverford College Student Literary Publications

Chautauqua was a feminist magazine which featured contributions from Haverford students and well-known authors. Themes of the issues include Feminism 101; The Legacy of the Sixties and Vietnam Today; Quakerism at Haverford: An Empty Word?; The US Constitution and Education in America; and Gender, Race, Ethnicity, Sexual Identity and the Haverford Experience. Issues included, essays, poetry, interviews, comics, and short stories.

Fifth Street Musicians was a Zine featuring commentary on current events and social issues. Each issue includes essays, short stories, and, occasionally, poetry. In addition to this content, there are sections for “Ear to the Ground,” an environmental newsletter; “Prism,” the publication of Haverford's Bisexual, Gay, and Lesbian Alliance (BGALA); and “The Inhuman Corner,” a publication from the Animal Rights Group (ARG). While most content is textual, there are some drawings and cartoons. Later issues also contain reviews.

Foetid was a poetry zine published online and in print. The goal of Foetid was to provide a place where “overly pretentious, poorly written, sophomoric poetry, angst-ridden and soul-felt photographs and other artwork, and prose with long, drawn-out sentences that you think will never end, as if the author had nothing better to do than to write half-assed self-referential claptrap in a futile attempt to try to appear clever, can be published.”

Leverage was a zine by and for people of color. Leverage published poetry, prose, and art, and had a blog platform.
