One of the most widely distributed books of the 16th century, Castiglione's 1528 Il Cortegiano was first published in English in 1561. This copy is from from 1577. The title page is decorated with a wood-block ornamental arch and borders signed: A.S. [Anton Sylvius of Antwerp]. An ornamental initial heads each section.
