Best Practices for Librarians using Libguides

TriCo Research Guides Terminology

How to speak Research Guides:

  • Research Guides: Our entire collection of guides.
  • LibGuides: Springshare's name for the general product that we call Research Guides.
  • How-To Guides: General guides to tools and topics that do not easily fit under a specific discipline (i.e., as opposed to "topic" guides).  [Use the "How-To" group and "General Purpose" guide type.]

  • Topic Guides: General guides that are subdisciplinary but not applicable to any one course.  [Use the "Topics" group and guide type.]
  • Course Guides: As the name implies, these are guides created for specific courses. [Label with the Courses guide type and file under the "Previous Semesters" or "Current" groups, as applicable.]
  • Areas of Study Guides: Subject-level guides that serve as general introductions to a subject/department/discipline and that contain lists of relevant course and topic guides.  [Research Guides administrators only.]
