Best Practices for Librarians using Libguides

Instructions

At the end of each semester, please do the following to keep our Libguides neat and manageable.

  1. Change your older course guides from "Current Courses" to "Previous Semester Courses".

  2. If you have created a new version of an existing course guide (for example, if a subsequent professor for a given course gives a different research assignment than the original professor), make the older version “Private” at a minimum; or consider deleting it--particularly if it’s not likely to be used again.

  3. If you have any “Unpublished” or otherwise stale guides, update or delete them.

  4. Delete student accounts that are no longer active.

More info on making guides 'Private'

With regard to making older versions "Private" (#2 above):

Guides marked "Private" are visible to anyone with the URL but will not appear in search results (in Tripod’s “Research Guides” tab or in general search engines).

Making guides private will keep our list of course guides from becoming too unwieldy for adequate browsing while still keeping the guide available for users who have the URL.

Any guides you want to remain browsable should be left as "Published".
