RELG 215: The Letters of Paul (HC) Fall 2024

Research resources to aid work done for Professor McGuire's F '24 course.

Finding Journal Articles

Because Tripod is essentially a comprehensive search engine for our library's holdings, you can use it to search for scholarly research articles. Just select the articles filter on the drop down menu to the right of the search bar.

Using the Advanced Search feature (click the button to the right of the search bar pictured above to activate it), you can also focus your search by specifying where the words or phrases you are searching for should appear. For example, you might search only through article titles, or only through subject terms, or authors' names. You can combine searches in different areas using the different rows.

Focused searching beyond Tripod

Since Tripod searches through so many resources, sometimes the search results you get will be too broad. It can be useful to search individual databases, whether they cover a range of disciplines (e.g., JSTOR) or pertain to a specific subject (like ATLA, a database from the American Theological Library Association).

Use the Find It button      in these indices to find out if the journal articles are available in the Tri-College libraries. If the journal is not listed in Tripod, use the Find It request form or the Interlibrary Loan Request Form on Tripod to have a copy of the article sent to you from another library.

Relevant general databases

Note that JSTOR has a Religion collection you can search for more specific results. To access it, first click on Advanced Search.

Then scroll down the Advanced Search page to find Religion in the list of subject areas (below the search fields). Once selected, you can then enter keywords/etc. and run your search, now retrieving religion-specific results.

Depending on your focus, you may wish to search in JSTOR's collections in fields such as Classical Studies, History, or possibly Gender Studies, among others.
