Bryn Mawr owns and subscribes to thousands of e-books, all of which can be found in Tripod and accessed from anywhere.
E-books are identifiable by the phrase "Available Online" in search results.
Clicking into the full record reveals the link to the full-text e-book. If you are off campus, you'll be prompted to log into EZProxy for remote access.
The way in which you access e-books via Tripod will vary depending on the publisher. In some cases, the entire e-book may be downloaded and printed. In other cases, downloading and printing may be restricted to a given number of pages. Other e-books may need to be "checked out" and viewed using an EPUB reader such as Adobe Digital Editions. You won't know this until you click into the e-book itself from Tripod.
If you need help understanding how to access an e-book, email library@brynmawr.edu.
Peer-reviewed articles and individual chapters from scholarly books can be found using the article search in Tripod. Accessing full-text is similar to e-books -- simply follow the link provided in the View Online section of the Tripod record for a particular article.
There are also many databases available in the Research Guides, both multidisciplinary (e.g. JSTOR, Web of Science) and discipline-specific (e.g. PsycINFO, MLA International Bibliography). Use the B resource icon to connect.
Why do I need to search in Tripod AND in databases to find articles related to my topic?
A Tripod search might not always capture the wealth of resources the library has access to. Individual database searches ensure that you are accessing all the resources relevant to your topic. Think about it this way - a store you shop at will show you some items from your favorite brand, but going directly to the brand's website will offer more options to suit your needs.
