We have access to three of the leading sculpture magazines. You will also want to look at the recent issues of the following art magazines which are kept in the periodicals room and have articles about sculpture: Art in America; Art News; Artforum; Flash Art. To access the full text articles from the three magazines noted below: After clicking on your college link select "Art Index Online" then click on the link to the right of "Full Text".
Fine arts books are housed under the "boat" on the second tier (entrance level) of the library.
Use TRIPOD the library's online catalog to find books. Use both the "author" and the "subject" search to find books about an artist.
The library uses the Library of Congress call number system. This is useful to remember if you are browsing in the collection. The Broad classification system of the visual arts is:
N general visual arts; books on particular museum collections; surveys
NA architecture
NB sculpture
NC drawing
ND painting
NE print media (printmaking and engraving
NK decorative arts
NX arts in general
All of the areas are further subdivided by the content of the book. For instance:
NB237 American sculptors
NB497 British sculptors
NB553 French sculptors
NB623 Italian sculptors
For the call numbers that identify books about sculptors from particular countries the first letter that follows the number which is assigned to the country the sculptor is from is the first letter of the sculptors last name. For example: NB553 R is a book about Rodin.
