How to find articles & books (when you have a citation)

Find an article

  1. Search Tripod for the article's title. (example)
  2. Do you see a match for the article in Tripod?
  • Yes: Click the result to view the full record page (example).
  • No:  Try searching for the Journal instead.
    • Choose Journal Search from the top links.
    • Search Tripod for the journal title (e.g. International Organization, International Security, Security Studies)
    • Click the result to view the journal record page. (example)
    • Look under View Online for links to this journal on different publisher websites.

Find a book

  1. Identify the title of the book you want.
  2. Search for the book title in Tripod.  (example: Debating the Democratic Peace)
  3. Click on the result to view the full record page.  (example)
    Tripod will give you information about how to get the book, whether it's available online or there's a print copy at the library.

Understanding Tripod instructions for getting a book:

  • View Online
    • If the book is available online, there will be a link in Tripod. (example)
    • Follow the link to read the book.
       
  • Get It   (Locations)
    • Reserves - Ask at McCabe front desk
    • Honors Reserves - Shelved by course on the 2nd floor of McCabe, near the main study area. (example)
    • Swarthmore McCabe Available - Shelved in the library at the call number listed. (example)
    • Haverford Lutnick or Bryn Mawr Canaday - Can be delivered you at McCabe within 1 day: Sign into Tripod, then click Request Physical Item. (example)

  • If you're prompted for your name and a question, there's a librarian or RIA available to help.

  • During the week, you should get a response back within a couple of hours (often faster).

  • Usually staffed from 10am-11pm on weeknights and Sundays.
