Library Summer Resident Program (BMC)

Library Summer Resident Program (BMC)

What is the the Library Summer Resident Program?

The Library Summer Resident Program is designed to introduce undergraduate students to the field of library and information science through hands-on practical training in the libraries. Over the course of 8-10 weeks, students will rotate between departments to learn new skills and work with a range of library staff.  Work will include front-facing, customer service-focused tasks (e.g. checking out books, finding books, answering questions), back-end technical services (e.g. shelving, labeling, inventory, weeding, and shifting the collection), outreach (e.g. social media) and usability testing. Every day will be a little different so flexibility and the ability to switch tasks easily are essential.

Students will be expected to work Monday through Friday 9am-5pm. No previous experience necessary. Training will be provided. This is a great introduction to libraries for anyone, particularly those who might be interested in pursuing a career in library or information science.

Requirements:

Applicants must be BMC students. Student employees serve as library liaisons and provide direct service and assistance to patrons and staff in a friendly and open manner. Student employees must have a high level of responsibility, reliability, and a willingness to learn. We have a team-oriented atmosphere.

No experience necessary but must be interested in learning new things. Job training will be provided. This is full-time employment (35 hours/week) and is on-site, in-person (no remote option).
