LibKey Nomad - Browser Extension for Accessing Digital Resources

LibKey Nomad

Introducing LibKey Nomad | CMU Libraries       LibKey Nomad is a free tool which connects you to resources wherever you are on the Web

                                        *   Access library subscriptions without connecting to the Tripod catalog

                                        *   Find accessible material in publisher websites, journal collections and databases like PubMed

                                        *   Identify open access resources and get prompts for requesting material from other libraries

                                        *  Easy to install app and requires no individual account   (See Third Iron's privacy policy)

                                        *  Look for the LibKey Nomad logo in the lower left corner of your screen to access a title

Getting Started

1) Go to the Download LibKey Nomad website.

2) Choose the browser you use:  Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave, Vivaldi or Safari

3) Choose Haverford College as your institution.

LibKey Nomad Links

When you land on a page for an article, LibKey Nomad automatically checks against the Haverford Libraries' subscriptions and provides a link to:

  • PDF of the article, if available
  • Manuscript version (via Unpaywall), if available
  • Link to request full text, if full text is not directly available

If you are off campus you will be directed to authenticate with your Haverford credentials before being taken to the PDF of the article. LibKey Nomad does not store your credentials or require you to create an account.

What to look for

LibKey Nomad automatically places a button in the bottom corner of a compatible webpage. This button changes its appearance to indicate what level of access is available.

Download PDF indicates that the Haverford Libraries provide access to the PDF, and will take you directly to the PDF of the document.

Article Link indicates that the Haverford Libraries provide access to the article, and will take you to a page where you can access the article. You may be able to download the article from there.

View E-Book indicates that the Haverford libraries provide digital access to the book, and will take you directly to the table of contents or to the search interface.

Access Options indicates that the Haverford Libraries do not have direct online access to the text. Clicking this will take you directly to the link resolver where you can select further access options such as interlibrary loan.
