Off-Campus Access to Library Resources (Bryn Mawr): Home

Connect to Library Resources from Off Campus

If you're not connected to the Bryn Mawr network and you find an electronic resource in Tripod or in our library resource guides, you will be prompted to log in to your Bryn Mawr account. You should then have access to that resource through our proxy server, as if you were on campus.

  • Bryn Mawr uses a proxy server called EZProxy to give students, faculty, and staff access to subscription resources like electronic journals and books when they are not on the campus network.
  • When you are off campus, the proxy server acts as an intermediary to connect you to the resource; it confirms that you are authorized and should get access as if you were on campus.
  • When you are connected to the campus network, you automatically have access to any e-books, journals, or other online resources you find through Tripod or our research guides.

Proxy Bookmarklet

What is a bookmarklet?

A browser bookmark that executes a command.

Why use the BMC proxy server bookmarklet?

Because you can "proxy" a subscription resource you find online when you're off campus, without having to navigate through the Bryn Mawr library website or using Tripod.

Step 1: Drag this link to your bookmark bar in your browser. (Click on the "Access via BMC Library" below and drag the link up to the bar right below the URL address bar.)*

Step 2: Then when you come across an article or e-book online and know you should have access through Bryn Mawr (like a JSTOR article) or want to see if you can get access directly, just click on the link in your bookmark bar. It will add in the necessary proxy information to the URL, prompt you to log in to your Bryn Mawr account, and if Bryn Mawr subscribes, you'll have access.**

Notes:

*Computer only. The bookmarklet won't work on a mobile device like a phone.

**We purchase subscriptions to content from many sources. If proxying a link you find online doesn't work, it doesn't mean you don't have access to the resource. Go to Tripod and search for the book or journal title to see if you can get to the content a different way. And if we don't have it, use Interlibrary Loan to request a copy.
