Introduction

This guide focuses on research strategies and resources about the Asian diaspora, particularly n the United States.  Use the searches and linked examples as jumping off points for exploration.

The Background Information page will help in developing your annotated bibliography and providing context for your final essay.  The Journal Articles and Books pages give you tools for accessing published scholarship.  The Primary Source page provides major source collections online and in print as well as individual published primary texts.  You may find a source you want to explore for the primary source analysis assignment.

Questions to Consider

The resources here will provide you with academic material for your class assignments.  When you select and read material, be aware of the following issues:

    • Expertise - What is the author's training?  Has that person published other material in this subject area?

    • Audience - Who are the intended readers?  Is it for the general public or for college students and researchers?

    • Discipline Focus - What subject approach does the author take?  Historical, religious, literary?  If historical is there a special interest in a particular kind of interpretation, such as social, economic or gendered?

    • Documentation - Is there a bibliography for further reading?  Are there titles there that are new to you?

    • Date - If the article or book was published more than 10 years ago, can you find a more recent point-of-view?
