CiLIS summer workshop May 20-24, 2024

The purpose of the Careers in Library and Information Science (CiLIS) Program is to introduce students to the field of library and information science, and to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion by increasing opportunities for underrepresented groups in the profession. This is a full-time workshop open to any student (including graduating seniors). You’ll participate in seminars, discussions, and field trips focused on social justice issues in librarianship and career options in the libraries and information field.

How to Apply

Please apply by March 31, 2024. You will need to supply:

  1. a resume,
  2. a cover letter, and
  3. the name and contact information for one reference, indicating their relationship to you (professor, supervisor, etc.). Make sure you let them know they might be contacted!

Your cover letter should address the following topics:

  • Your reason for applying for this workshop
  • Your experience in libraries, archives, or museums, as a visitor/user or employee. Experiences can be positive and negative.
  • What role you think libraries play in campus culture
  • How your experiences and interests contribute to the field of library work
