This collection contains letters reporting on the rebellions in the eastern part of Haiti and the attempts by the rebels to gain European support during 1849-1850. The letters were primarily written by L. Dufrene who was at the time Haitian Secretary General.

Stephen Grellet, 1773-1855, was a French Quaker minister and missionary who came to America in 1795. This collection includes primarily letters and parts of Grellet's diary, including documentation of his trip to Haiti in 1816.
Dated 12 août 1789-9 avril 1790. The first letter is signed by "Reynaud, president" and 12 others. The planters of Saint-Domingue had chosen 18 deputies to represent them in the National assembly. Only six, however, were finally admitted to that body in July 1789.
