Develop Your Own Search Strategy

Choose a lecture topic that interests you*, and find a popular web source.

  1. Using ideas from that source, write one possible research question.

  2. What are two or three main concepts in your research question?

  3. Using those main concepts, conduct an initial search in PubMed and scan the titles and/or some abstracts.

  4. Refine your research question, if necessary.

  5. Add synonyms, acronyms, and variant spellings to your search strategy.

  6. Find one primary research article. Be prepared to describe your strategy.

*This is preliminary only--you don't have to stick with this topic.
