As you will need to read many of the writings by mystics in translation, it is useful to keep the following points in mind.  1) A number of the translations that are available on the "Web" are not the best translations; 2) Use the works listed in this guide to lead you to the best translations; 3) You may want to look at various translations of the work that you are interested in as some translations try to provide a literal translation while others try to convey a sense of the original literary style and some translations try to capture the religious or spiritual essence of the text.
