Citation Style

For this class you'll be using the citation style used by the journal Ecology. To see articles in this journal go here.

You will be able to format your references by using:

 

Citation Managers

For this class, we recommend you use the citation manager  EndNote Basic.

EndNote Basic allows you to:

  • import or capture references
  • organize references in folders by subject
  • attach pdfs and link to full text articles
  • create formatted bibliographies

Citation Elements

You'll want these elements of your citation appear correctly in your uploaded records.

Printed materials:

  • Authors
  • Title of article or book chapter
  • Title of book or journal
  • Publication information:
    • volume, issue, pages (for articles)
    • name and location of publisher (for books)
    • date of publication (for books and articles)

Online materials:

  • Authors
  • Title of website, online article or electronic-book
  • Date published OR modified
  • Date you viewed the site
  • Site URL

EndNote Basic: Getting Started

 EndNote Basic is available to you through a Tri-College subscription.

There are a fewl steps you'll have to go through to get EndNote Basic set up on your computer.

  1. Go to http://www.myendnoteweb.com and create an account.
  2. Install the Capture Reference button.
  3. Install Cite While You Write.
  4.  In Endnote, open the Format tab, choose Format Paper and Select Favorites. Then scroll until you find the journal "Ecology" and Copy to Favorites. This is the format you will apply to your references.

Now you are ready to add citations to EndNote Basic.

Using Cite While You Write

Use Cite While You Write with MS Word to cite references and create properly formatted citations and a bibliography for your paper. Cite While You Write gives you access to EndNote references and formatting commands by using the EndNote tab on the Word taskbar.
