Journal articles provide in depth scholarly information. They are vetted and improved by peer review. They are usually fairly short in length and focused on discussing one specific issue. The following indexes are good places to find journal articles about religion.
Use the Find It button in these indexes to find out if the journal articles are available in the Tri-College libraries. If the journal is not listed in Tripod, use the Find It request form or the Interlibrary Loan Request Form on Tripod to have a copy of the article sent to you from another library.
Subject Databases - ATLA & Année Philologique General Databases - JSTOR & ProQuest Research Library

Google Scholar is a helpful tool to explore relevant scholarly literature on a topic.
To search using Google Scholar:
Go to scholar.google.com
To access the advanced search option which is similar to the advanced tripod search, click on the three lines in the upper left corner and select the advanced search option.
You can search using quotation marks and * as a wildcard.
For example searching gnostic* AND demiurge, and limiting it to 1990 to the present Gives over 11K results, many available open access.
When you find an interesting result, there is a field that tells you how many other articles have cited this one. Clicking on "cited by" can help you see how the scholarly community has been interacting with this article. It may give you other relevant results to your study.
Gnosis: journal of gnostic studies
This is an annual journal dedicated to the study of Gnosticism. It is not currently subscribed to by Haverford College. However, some articles are available open access. When looking at an article, if there is an open green lock next to the title, you can click and download a PDF.
If there is an article that is locked with a red lock, you can request it through Interlibrary loan (ILL).
