This link opens in a new windowExhibition catalogs will be especially helpful for your research. There is a subject heading called Exhibition Catalogs and you can search within that list for something related to your interests. Try "Exhibition Catalogs" AND "Diaspora".
Remember, that not every catalog has this subject heading, so be strategic with your searches. Try searching for show titles (if you know them), or museums, as well as artist names.
This guide is for students taking the writing program course on Seeing Through Diaspora (WRITING PROGRAM 187). Since Magill library is closed for renovation, here are some tips:
Browse Online and in the Locker Building:
Let's say you find a book on Tripod and you really think it is relevant to your interests or research project. One way to physically browse books on Haverford's campus is to head to the Locker Building (near VCAM) which has approximately 22,000 volumes for you to browse and a self-check out kiosk if you find materials you want to check out.
But if you want to digitally browse, you can do that too. Take the call number of the book you liked (copy paste it from the online record). Head back to Tripod. Click on the Books and More tab. Underneath the search box is a link "Browse". At the bottom of the page there is a drop down menu, select "By Call Number." Paste the call number from the book you liked into the field. Hit enter or click "search." This will provide you with a massive list of the books at all three schools and you can browse the shelves digitally.

1. Use double quotes to search for exact phrases:
Enclose exact phrases in double quotes "like this" to emphasize search results containing that phrase, or the name of an artist.
2. Create your own search engine for a particular website using Google:
To search within a particular website, add the following "site:" statement to your search results.
Mona Hatoum site:tate.org.uk
3. Eliminate commonly associated search terms:
You can exclude search results that include certain words. For example:
asian american art -korea
4. Emphasize certain search terms:
Use the + sign to bring search results containing certain terms towards the top of your Google results. For example:
asian american artist +women
5. Search for only academic websites:
Add site:.edu to your search terms to search (US) academic websites. For example:
diaspora art site:.edu
You can use this for .org as well to find legitimate organizations, such as museums.
6. Use Google's "Search Tools" to narrow your results by date added
1. Enter your search term(s) and click Search.
2. At the top of the search results page, click "Search Tools."
3. You can then change the drop down menu from "Any Time" to the past year, a custom date range, etc.
The following is a list of photography magazines and journals which are currently received at Haverford. Current issues are in the Science Library. Back issues of these periodicals are retained and housed in the Warehouse, or in the Science Library.
