Provides an overview of the past 200 years of Japanese clothing. Also situates this history as part of global history and discusses various theories analyzing Japanese fashion.

While much of the emphasis of this book is on the garment itself, it does have a moderate amount of text discussing clothing in its cultural and sociological setting.

Useful for the overview (with illustrations) of Japanese youth fashion from the 1980s.

Discusses school uniforms.
