Locating Books & Journals in the Tri-Co

Use the Tripod catalog to look for relevant books owned by Haverford, Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore.

(The old version of Tripod, Tripod Classic, can sometimes be easier to use if you know the title you're looking for, since you can search specifically for, e.g., journal titles.)

If you come across titles you think we should have, or titles that are missing, let me (Camilla MacKay) know—I'm happy to buy or replace books that should be in our collection.

Finding books and articles outside the Tri-Co

Borrowing Beyond the Tri-Co
Request items that are not available in Tripod through E-ZBorrow or Interlibrary Loan. Note that E-Z Borrow is the first place to look for books not in Tripod. It usually takes just three days for E-Z Borrow books to arrive. Books not in E-Z Borrow can come from Interlibrary Loan (ILL) which may take as little as four or five days to arrive.

For journal articles not available in the three colleges, use the Article Delivery form. In around 3 days you will receive a digital copy of the requested articles in your email.

How to Search the Beazley Archive
The Basic Search is the easiest way to search for famous painters, shapes, techniques, or vases; the Full Database is more difficult, and you can get to most of the same searches as the Full Database from the Basic Search screen. At the bottom of abbreviated lists of Painter/Potter, Inscription, Subject, are links to "Advanced Lists" which will give you the complete list from the full database.
Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum This link opens in a new window
The Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum ("Corpus of Ancient Vases") consists of a series of high-quality catalogues of mostly ancient Greek painted pottery in collections around the world. This database includes out of print fascicles (up to a few years ago)

This enormous image dictionary (in Carpenter Reference NX650 .M9 L48) allows you to search for images of mythological characters and events in all media (sculpture, coins, vases, etc.). An excellent source for browsing images of vases, since images of both complete vases and fragments are included.
