Selected Resources for the Study of the Hebrew Bible: Art

This site provides links to artworks. It is arranged by scripture passage. While useful it has some drawbacks. It is still being developed. Also a number of the links are either dead or take you to the homepage of the institution that owns the work rather than the work itself. However if you encounter either of these situations, you can find the artwork by other means now that you know of its existence.

One way to use this resource is to type in the name of the Biblical figure or the topic (for example "creation"). This search will find articles where your word is mentioned and hence lead you to artists that use your figure or topic in their artwork.

This two volume set is comprised of chapters on different motifs, themes as depicted in Western art. Chapters begin with an overview of how a particular theme is represented in art, then it provides a chronological listing of artworks connected to the theme, and finishes with a list of books for further reading.
Two indexes will be useful to you: 1) starting on page 989: Index of Judeo-Christian Personages, Places and Concepts. Here for example you can see which chapters mention Noah. 2) starting on page 1001: Index of References to the Bible and Other Sacred Books. This index is arranged by Book of the Bible then chapter.
