LATN 211: Dear Cicero (HC) Fall 2024: Concordances & Editions

The following databases are very helpful in searching a wide body of other ancient or Latin texts for particular terms, phrases, themes, references, and the like.

Translation series may be found in Tripod using a series search.

Use Advanced Search and select Series from the drop-down list of search fields, then enter the names of the series below. Specify your search for specific authors or translations using additional fields.

        Standard Editions

• Loeb Classical Library 
  • A series of Latin and Greek texts with facing page English translations. Now published by Harvard University Press but started in 1912 by the publisher William Heinemann. The critical apparatus is minimal at best and should be supplemented by a more scholarly edition.
• Oxford Classical Texts
  • Search Scriptorum classicorum bibliotheca Oxoniensis. A series of Ancient Latin and Greek texts with critical notes.  In recent years introductions appear in English; earlier introductions were in Latin.  
• Cambridge green and yellow series 
  • Search Cambridge Greek and Latin Classics. A series of Ancient Greek and Latin texts with commentaries that address literary issues as well as grammatical ones.  
• Teubner Series
  • Search Bibliotheca scriptorum Graecorum et Romanorum Teubneriana. Also a series of Ancient Latin and Greek texts with critical notes. Teubner has been publishing longer than Oxford and has the greatest number of texts available in modern editions with extensive notes.
