Case Law, Briefs, Arguments, Opinions and Decisions

Use the detailed guide prepared by Simon Elichko at Swarthmore College for finding different materials associated with Supreme Court cases:

                                  Researching US Supreme Court Cases

Finding Citations

Once a decision has been made, that case can be used for new judicial rulings.   The database Shepard's Citations documents instances in which the case that you are researching has been subsequently cited by judges in their decisions.  Those instances can involve upholding, distinguishing or overruling that original decision.

To "Shepardize" cases, please see the explanation and examples on Simon Elichko's guide page, After the Decision.
