HIST 115: Postcards from the Atlantic World (HC)

This 2017 edition of the handbook provides guidance on documenting sources and on writing style. It is frequently recommended for use by students in the social sciences. It includes instructions and examples for online publications and websites.

This page explains the system using separate bibliographic notes for citations rather than including them in the text as in often done in science papers. Examples are included for the different kinds of publications most often used by history students.

This is the ninth edition of a guide that was developed for students and aligned with the Chicago Manual of Style. This edition incorporates much information about digital sources.

"Source citations in the Turabian manual come in two varieties: (1) notes and bibliography (or simply notes) and (2) author-date. These two systems are also sometimes referred to as Chicago-style citations, because they are the same as the ones presented in The Chicago Manual of Style".
