Getting Started at the Library: A Checklist: Home

Check out this easy to use checklist to help get you situated with all the tools the library offers. This guide offers new students an accessible way to use library resources as they becoming necessary during your first semester.

As Soon As Possible

o  Set up your laptop to print to the library printers

o   Set Tripod login  [sign in first time with your 14-digit barcode]

o   Leave stuff behind – some textbooks are on reserve for use in the library

o   Borrow a phone charger [laptop, headphones, calculator…]

o   Watch a film with friends in the family room

o   Grab a 10:00 pm snack 

Before Your First Research Paper

o  Get to know your Subject Librarian and meet a RIA*

o  Take a look at the Library Research Guides

Use EasyBib, Zotero, EndNote

o  Set-up e-book apps on an iPad (Bluefire Reader and Adobe Digital Editions) 

Before Fall Break

o  Check out a pleasure reading book from the library’s new arrivals 

Family Weekend

o  Shop the library book sale for cheap treasures! 

Pre-Registration for Spring Semester

o  Visit a SAM* in the library

o  Check out a locker so you don’t have to lug your books back and forth 

*Useful Acronyms

SAM: “Student Academic Mentors” are student mentors who are trained to help brainstorm and answer your questions on academic skills and management.

RIA: “Research and Information Associates” are trained students who assist and meet with other students to help begin research and to clarify any questions on sources.
